Mike Capaldi
UK and European Patent Attorney
I qualified as a UK and European Patent Attorney in 2003 having earlier graduated from the University of Nottingham with a first degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry. Following two years of Post-doctoral research in Materials Science I worked as a Senior Scientific Officer for the UK Ministry of Defence before training as a Patent Attorney.
I have spent the last 20 years as in-house patent counsel in the UK Chemical industry. My practice has spanned a wide range of chemical subjects from ceramics and glasses, catalysts and precious metal refining to polymers and additives for the fuels and lubricants industry.
I have extensive experience in European Patent Office practice particularly with Opposition and Appeal proceedings including representing clients at oral hearings. I have worked closely with associates and counsel both in Europe and beyond to both prosecute and defend patents in countries such as China, Japan and South Korea.
I aim to provide pragmatic advice on patent and other IP matter and to use my experience to help my clients navigate the IP landscape to the benefit of their businesses.
