Anna Bartholomew
UK and European Patent Attorney and UK Trade Mark Attorney
With over 22 years of experience in the field of Intellectual Property, I am a UK and European Patent Attorney and UK Trade Mark Attorney here at Mathisen & Macara.
My initial field of interest was Mechanical Engineering, in which I have a Masters Degree from the University of Exeter. After university, I trained as a Patent Attorney so that I could use my mechanical knowledge within the legal framework of patents. Since then, I have gained a breadth of experience earned from years working alongside experts in the field. In order to offer a full spectrum of Intellectual Property advice, I have expanded my skill set and qualified as a UK Trade Mark Attorney in 2022. I am also qualified to provide advice regarding UK Registered and Unregistered Designs.
In relation to subject matter – I have a number of varied specialisms that include mechanics, electronics, software, and computer implemented inventions. A more detailed list would also include Internet of Things inventions, 3D printers, traffic monitoring systems using mobile phone cell location, touch sensitive screens, insulation devices, insect monitoring devices, ink jet printers, medical devices, and robotic hands. Like I said – varied!
My legal specialisms include:
All aspects of international Patent work: including drafting, prosecution, and securing eventual grant.
Conducting Opposition Proceedings at the European Patent Office.
All aspects of Trade Mark procedure, including searches, the preparation and filing of applications, defence of applications, and ongoing monitoring and enforcement of trade marks.
Opposing and Defending trade mark applications at the UK Intellectual Property Office.
Protection of various IP rights, including the preparation of cease and desist letters and co-existences agreements.
The preparation and filing of Registered Design applications.
Equipped with experience from across the full spectrum of Intellectual Property matters, from both a UK and International perspective, my role is to advise clients and represent their best interests; whether that involves new applications, or ongoing monitoring and protection of their rights.
