Christine Gravenell
Formalities Officer - Partner
As a long-standing member of Mathisen & Macara LLP, I joined the firm as a Partner upon its merger with Compass Patents, which itself was a firm where I was a co-Founder. My role is a Formalities Officer, a job which involves various detailed compliance practices, as part of the filing process for patents, registered trade marks, design applications and grants.
My 29 years of experience in Formalities began in the in-house Patent Department for British Petroleum (BP), receiving my CIPA qualification in 2002. I was there for 15 years. Here I had great exposure to and experience of patent applications, on a sizeable scale and global level. My experience in private practice since, has built on this experience and has allowed me to continue advising and administering patent formalities for a wider variety of industries and sectors.
Formalities is a very specialised area and requires a unique skillset. My professional specialisms include:
Administering and assuring end-to-end compliance for companies who are filing Patent applications, be it here in the UK, in Europe, or further afield.
Administering the formalities for European grant procedures.
Monitoring and managing all formalities for registered trademark and design applications.
International liaison for a range of applications being made globally.
A detailed and thorough approach to Formalities, ensuring all compliance needs are met for every application made through Mathisen & Macara.
My focus is our clients and I aim to make a series of very complicated and precise procedures seem effortless, for the ultimate win, which is a successful filling.
