Sue Stevens
Formalities Officer - Partner
With more than 35 years’ experience in all aspects of patent and trade mark formalities, I am a Formalities Officer and a Partner at Mathisen & Macara, specialising in the Recordal of transfer and changes of ownership of IP portfolios worldwide.
My career began in BP’s Patents Department, and it was here that I was introduced to what would eventually become my specialism – company-to-company assignments and the Recordal of transfer and changes of ownership of IP worldwide. I remained there for 21 years before becoming a founding partner of Compass Patent LLP, alongside five other colleagues. Compass Patent LLP would go on to merge with Mathisen & Macara LLP, to create the stellar team we have today.
I hold both the CIPA Patent Administrators and CIPA Trade Mark Administrators qualifications and lead the Formalities team at the firm. What is a Formalities Officer? Formalities is a complex and detailed discipline that requires a keen eye for accuracy and organisation. And the majority of IP work would not happen without it.
My key specialisms include:
- The recordal of transfer and changes of ownership, including for Patents, Trade Marks, and Designs.
- Global company-to-company assignments.
- The transfer of IP portfolios.
- International work that includes partnership work across multiple regions.
- Staying informed about changes in patent and trade mark laws and regulations to provide the most current and effective support
I relish the opportunity to work with colleagues across the UK and the wider world – and believe the key to good partnership working is clear communication; something that the whole team at Mathisen & Macara, excel at.
